Sweet Static

Yes, another mp3 blog. Trying to share what I like with the world. The music here is for sampling only and are up for a limited time. It's simple really you see. If you like the music then go out and support the artists. Buy a cd/mp3/eight track, make a request on radio, see them live, tell others about it. This way this wonderful medium hopefully won't be stomped on.

Random Things

Hope everyone is having a good holiday season. Just a couple of things from me here.

-As I said on my show last week, I was going to post the Christmas songs I played on December 14 on the site, since most were from other mp3 blogs. So tonight I made the flie up, zipped it and then went to Rapidshare and boom, not working. So keep an eye out the next couple of days and hopefully I'll have it up.
-Last week I did a post on Jim Guthrie wondering what he was up to. Of course leave it to Michael Barclay over at radiofreecanuckistan to answer the question. Guthrie is working on his new album and has been writing commercial jingles. You can read the full interview over here.
-I'm really looking forward to Walk Hard coming this Friday so when I saw this promo video from Judd Apatow from Funny Or Die I was excited. Watching it, the excitement held up. Enjoy it here.

That's all for now. More coming soon.

Jim Guthrie

I woke up this morning to one of my favorite Jim Guthrie songs playing on my computer, "1901". So it got me wondering what is up with him lately. His last proper release came out in 2003 so I'm definitely ready for some new music. No news on his website and his Wikipedia page says he's working on an album hopefully out late in 2007, but who knows how reliable that info is. The bottom line is that I have no clue what's going on with him.

So anyways with all that I did see that there's a lot of cool stuff on his website to download (solo, Royal City, Mandrills) and since I mentioned "1901" I'll point out this short, remix of the song by i am robot and proud.

Zunior's Latest Free Compilation available.

The brand new free compilation from Zunior is now online. Another one with not a lot on it I know but there are three bands I'd recommend. There's brand new Cuff The Duke. I loved their first album, the second one did nothing for me but I've heard lots of good about this one. I was introduced to Orillia Opry from Zunior so definitely want to hear more from them. Lastly is Gabriel Minnikin, formerly of The Guthries. Can't wait to check out what he's up to.

Here's the full track listing.

1 Surging Revival - Cuff the Duke Sidelines of the City Hardwood Records
2 Kick This City - Kara Keith Kara Keith EP Saved By Radio
3 Silent Night - The Dill An Instrumental Christmas The Zunior Label

My PLUG Award Votes

I was reading an email from a label and they mentioned the PLUG Awards and I thought I'd vote. I also thought it'd make for a good post. I'm just going by their nominations and not doing any write in votes.

Album Of The Year-I've got to go with The Arcade Fire's Neon Bible. Have to admit that I haven't heard all the albums but I did really like Neon Bible.

New Artist Of The Year-Not even close here. I'm a huge fan of Los Campesinos! and can't wait for the full length next year.

Female Artist Of The Year-Not an easy choice but I'm going to go with Sharon Jones. I'm sure if I had seen Bettye LaVette when I had the chance I'd be voting for her but I love Sharon Jones.

Male Artist Of The Year-I'm going to with Sam Beam of Iron & Wine. I'm just getting into the latest record but it's enough for my vote.

Indie Rock Album Of The Year-Was thinking about The New Pornographers but sticking with Neon Bible.

Americana Album Of The Year-Another pretty easy one as I'm voting for The Avett Brothers' Emotionalism.

Music Website Of The Year-I'm going with Daytrotter, if only for the awesome Rock Plaza Central session they did.

Music Blog Of The Year-My favorite isn't on the main list so I'm going to go with An Aquarium Drunkard.

Magazine Of The Year-Another easy one for me and I voted for Magnet.

So there you go. The rest of the categories I didn't vote on. Definitely go and have your voice heard.
