Sweet Static

Yes, another mp3 blog. Trying to share what I like with the world. The music here is for sampling only and are up for a limited time. It's simple really you see. If you like the music then go out and support the artists. Buy a cd/mp3/eight track, make a request on radio, see them live, tell others about it. This way this wonderful medium hopefully won't be stomped on.

Sweet Static is an mp3 blog that allows me to share the music I love and also to point out other cool things around the internet that catch my attention. It is also a place where I can talk about my radio show by the same name, now on Thursday nights from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on CJAM 91.5 FM in Windsor, Ontario. Got something I should hear? Polaris Prize Nominees

Well the nominations are in for the Polaris Prize, the Canadian version of the critics/artist music awards for those who don't sell too many records. Really good list of nominees. They are...

Broken Social Scene for Broken Social Scene (Arts & Crafts/EMI)

Cadence Weapon for Breaking Kayfabe (Upper Class/EMI)

The Deadly Snakes for Porcella (Paper Bag/Universal)

Final Fantasy for He Poos Clouds (Blocks Recording Club/Sonic Unyon)

Sarah Harmer for I'm A Mountain (Cold Snap/Universal)

K'naan for The Dusty Foot Philosopher (Track & Field/Sony BMG)

Malajube for Trompe L'oeil (Dare to Care/Outside)

Metric for Live It Out (Last Gang/Universal)

The New Pornographers for Twin Cinema (Mint/Outside)

Wolf Parade for Apologies to the Queen Mary (Sub Pop/Outside)

I was excited when I first heard of the awards. Anything like this that will give more recognition to under heard Canadian music is an excellent idea to me. As for the nominees themselves I like the list. I haven't heard everything (K'Naan, Malajube) and don't like everything but I think it's a good list of representing what's going on in Canada today.

My own personal pick from the list would be for The New Pornographers but we shall see what the experts pick.

The winner will be announced in September and in August a CD will be released with tracks from the nominees.
