Sweet Static

Yes, another mp3 blog. Trying to share what I like with the world. The music here is for sampling only and are up for a limited time. It's simple really you see. If you like the music then go out and support the artists. Buy a cd/mp3/eight track, make a request on radio, see them live, tell others about it. This way this wonderful medium hopefully won't be stomped on.

New Geoff Berner

A favorite of Sweet Static has always been Geoff Berner. Berner has sharp, pointed songs with usually just his accordian, although sometimes with violin and drums.

He has a new album out in February, The Wedding Dance of the Widow Bride and he's put up a taste of it up on his website. This song is pretty good representation of his work. Here's the link.

He has a big tour coming up with Bob Wiseman next month. For full dates you can go here.

Also out there in blogland, B(oo)tlog has a live Geoff Berner show from September of last year. To check it out go here.

The new Geoff Berner album is officially out. It's awesome. His recorded stuff has come a long way since Light Enough to Travel came out. LEtT was a bit lackluster as far as I was concerned because NOTHING from a studio could compare to Geoff's live show. The Wedding Dance of the Widow Bride, however, shows that Geoff can embrace the studio and do some stuff with Diona and Wayne (fiddle and drums) that's maybe more difficult to pull off live.

I saw Geoff play at his Victoria CD Release Party on Feb 3 and wanted to buy a CD but only had enough cash to buy his new book How to Be an Accordion Player. He was willing to haggle the price down, but I kind of wanted to pay the full price for something I knew was going to be awesome so I went home and ordered it from Jericho Beach Music. Ordered it on Sunday afternoon and received it on Wednesday. It's great.

Widow Bride is profound and the cover of Queen Victoria does good service to Mr. Cohen (who wrote it). I also really like Weep, Bride, Weep and Traitor Bride.
